Wife and Strife in the North

Wife in the North is the blog of a lady who has moved North, to the country, from London. It has been in the news lately as the author went, in a matter of weeks, from being a disgruntled blogging wife to a famous writer under contract to write a book.
Strife in the North, linked to by Wife in the North, to her credit, is a jealous spoof. The “rillysuper” in the address is a backhanded reference to former Sunday Times journalist Jilly Cooper, author of half a dozen “bonkbuster” novels and widely known by the nickname “jolly super” (she was said to be the kind of girl who said everything was).
When Wife in the North writes
I think it would be entirely unreasonable to divorce your husband because he let the car run out of petrol. I think you have more of a case the fifth time it happens. That is since we moved here.
one can laugh and look forward to the fun that Strife in the North will have with this. Girls were made of sterner stuff in Jilly’s day. Her Quotationspage entry reads
The male is a domestic animal which, if treated with firmness, can be trained to do most things.
There is something in the male British psyche about dominant women.
London’s telephone boxes have featured ads for ladies with whips for as long as I can remember and despite periodic efforts to clean them up, nothing ever seems to change.
Why London’s phone boxes is a good question. Of course, the world’s oldest profession uses the latest technology so web addresses are commonly advertised now and “tart cards” may become collector’s items.
Payphones are here to stay though. During last year’s bombings in London the cellular networks were overloaded and couldn’t be used by most people, but the payphones were unaffected.
