Here’s a new Firefox plugin: Readability.
It’s a tool for excising distractions when you’re reading, a satisfying dismissive for advertisers.
I would like to be able to click on a link and activate Readability at the same time. Yes, f inding oneself in the middle of Picadilly Circus when reading can be annoying (especially those adverts that start talking when inadvertently moused over), but links can be distracting too.
How did I end up here?!
Hat tip: David Pogue in the NYT.
I am not so thrilled with the idea, announced today, of Google searching live information on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Is that what we signed up to?
At some point there should be a backlash against this creeping exploitation, even if, as I hope, the default is for no change to existing privacy settings on the sites that Google will index.
